How Our Brand Was Born
At BackToModern, our story is one of resilience, adaptation, and the pursuit of a dream. We closed our small brick and mortar store during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and our journey from those early days has shaped who we are today.
Our journey at BackToModern is a tale spun from generations of wheel enthusiasts, a dash of Brooklyn grit, and the unwavering determination of a young dreamer. It all began with our grandfather, a true collector and tinkerer of all things wheeled, who amassed thousands of bike parts and skillfully rebuilt them on his humble porch in the heart of Brooklyn, NY.
This passion for wheels, for the freedom they represent, and the joy they bring, was an inheritance that coursed through our family's veins. It trickled down, generation after generation, until it landed in the hands of a young child growing up in the early '90s in the scenic neighborhoods of Westchester, NY. That child, fueled by the wind in his hair and the thrill of adventure, would one day become the founder of BackToModern

At just 13 years old, armed with little more than a fearless spirit and a best friend next door, our founder embarked on a mission that even his father thought was a bit too ambitious. They acquired a motorized three-wheeler with a blown-out engine for a mere $300. The father, with equal parts concern and curiosity, allowed the project to proceed, thinking that two young teenagers wouldn't get very far in resurrecting the machine.
But to everyone's astonishment, especially his father's, three months of relentless dedication, days spent inside and outside of school, and countless replaced pistons and heads resulted in a fully revived 250r Honda three-wheeler. The victory was sweet, but it also revealed the peril of their success, as the machine proved to be even more daring and dangerous than they had imagined.
The journey of those two young friends, against the odds and with a shared dream, serves as a testament to the power of ingenuity and persistence. While the sale of three-wheelers might have been outlawed, the fire of their passion burned brighter than ever.
